Any loose flaking material must be removed and light sanding is recommended. SikaBond Fast will adhere to damp (not wet) substrates but drying times may increase. Substrates should be above 5ºC. Do not bond 2 non-porous substrates ensure that one surface is porous. Application Apply a 5 mm bead of SikaBond Fast to one surface using a cartridge gun; ensure the beads are no more than 45cm apart. Bring both substrates immediately together and clamp, nail or screw for a minimum of 24 hours. For butt joints use adhesive on both panel edges. Cleaning The uncured material can be cleaned with water. The hardened material can only be removed by mechanical means. (CQP 019-1) APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS SUBSTRATE PREPARATION The substrate must be clean, dry, sound and homogeneous, free from oils, grease, dust and loose or friable particles. Sikasil® Pool adheres without primers and/or activators. However, for optimum adhesion and critical, high performance applications, such as on multi-story buildings, highly stressed joints, extreme weather exposure or water immersion, the following priming and/or pretreatment procedures shall be followed: Non-porous substrates Aluminium, anodised aluminium, stainless steel, glass, galvanised steel, powder coated metals or glazed tiles have to be cleaned and pre-treated using Sika® Aktivator-205, wiped on with a clean towel. Before sealing, allow a flash-off time of > 15 minutes (< 6 hours). Other metals, such as copper, brass and titanium-zinc, must also be cleaned and pre-treated using Sika® Aktivator-205, wiped on with a clean towel. After the necessary flash-off time, use a brush to apply Sika® Primer-3 N and allow a further flash-off time of > 30 minutes (< 8 hours) before sealing the joints. PVC has to be cleaned and pre-treated using Sika® Primer-215 applied with a brush. Before sealing, allow a flash-off time of > 30 minutes (< 8 hours). Porous substrates Concrete, aerated concrete and cement based renders, mortars and bricks shall be primed using Sika® Primer-3 N applied with a brush. Note: Primers are adhesion promoters. They are neither a substitute for the correct cleaning of a surface, nor do they improve the strength of the surface significantly. APPLICATION METHOD / TOOLS Sikasil® Pool is supplied ready to use. After the necessary substrate preparation, insert a suitable backing rod to the required depth and apply any primer if necessary. Insert a foil pack or cartridge into the sealant gun and extrude Sikasil® Pool into the joint making sure that it comes into full contact with the sides of the joint and avoids any air entrapment. Sikasil® Pool sealant must be firmly tooled against the joint sides to ensure adequate adhesion. It is recommended to use masking tape where exact joint lines or neat lines are required. Remove the tape within the skin time. Use a compatible tooling agent (e.g. Sika® Tooling Agent N) to smooth the joint surfaces. Do not use tooling products containing solvents. CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT Clean all tools and application equipment immediately after use with Sika® Remover-208. Once cured the residual material can only be removed mechanically. IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS ▪ Sikasil® Pool cannot be overpainted. Colour variations may occur due to exposure to chemicals, high temperatures and/or UV-radiation (especially with the colour shade white). However, a change in colour is purely of aesthetic nature and does not adversely influence the technical performance or durability of the product. ▪ The use of non-prescribed tooling agents must be tested prior to use in application to ensure they will not cause aesthetical changes (such as discolouration). ▪ Do not use Sikasil® Pool on bituminous substrates, natural rubber, EPDM rubber or on any building materials which might bleed oils, plasticizers or solvents that could attack the sealant. ▪ Do not use Sikasil® Pool for structural glazing or insulated glazing, and food contact applications. ▪ Do not use Sikasil® Pool for medical or pharmaceutical uses. ▪ Before using Sikasil® Pool on natural stone, please contact our Technical Service Department for advice. ▪ Recommendations for use in swimming pools / warm water whirlpools: Allow Sikasil® Pool to cure completely before the filling of the pool; minimum of 7 days (depending on the temperature, humidity and thickness of the sealant applied). ▪ The resistance of a sealant to chlorine is dependent on the pH value of the water and the amount of free chlorine. ▪ Sikasil® Pool can be used in swimming pools and warm water whirlpools in which a pH value between 6.5 and 7.6 is maintained, and the free chlorine remains less than 5 mg/l (5 ppm). ▪ To reduce the risk of fungal attack on Sikasil® Pool, the free available chlorine level shall not be ≤ 0.3 mg/l in swimming pools and ≤ 0.7 mg/l in warm water whirlpools. Continuous water circulation is required to avoid chlorine concentrations. ▪ If there is a very strong smell of chlorine, check the pH value accordingly. ▪ Do not use acid-based detergents as they increase the danger of fungal attack. ▪ When joints are reconstructed due to fungal attack, Sikasil® Pool must be removed completely. Remove spacers, rake out excessive, dust, debris etc from the joints. If re-grouting remove old grout and clean thoroughly with Selleys Rapid Mould Killer and allow to dry. Do not grout at temperatures below 10°C, or in damp conditions. Before grouting, check ease of removal from matt or textured tile surfaces. Seal porous tiles before grouting or removal of grout from tiles will be difficult. Application Cut seal, screw on nozzle, cut to size. Apply with a caulking gun, forcing grout into joints (for cartridge only). Grout small areas at a time. Work the grout into the joints and smooth off using a rubber squeegee or grout float, moving diagonally across the joints with several passes to compact the grout lines and minimise the amount left on the face of the tiles – avoid moving along the joint as this removes grout from the joint. Tip: hold float/squeegee at 45° angle; clean regularly. Clean up with water, before grout sets. Allow grout to firm up in joints for approx 20 min (longer in colder conditions). Storage and re-use Store in cool dry conditions, below 30°C The sealant should be used within 6 months after opening. After use keep the nozzle on the cartridge Silicone is a reactive product and is designed to cure once exposed to humidity. While the product may be stored for a few months once opened, it does have a limited shelf life. Storage in an upright position in a cool dry place is recommended to maximise the storage life. If the sealant is going to be used again within a few days, leave the nozzle on and merely extrude approximately 2 cm of product before storing the cartridge upright. This will cure to a plug which can easily be pulled out when required. For longer storage periods, leave the nozzle on and place a piece of plasticene or Blu Tack over the end of the nozzle. Tightly tape a piece of aluminium foil over the whole nozzle to exclude any air. When you want to re-use the product, simply take off the foil and plug from the old nozzle pull out the excess silicone from the nozzle with a corkscrew, then re-pierce any cure at the tip of the cartridge and re-use. If cure has taken place into the cartridge, the product is unlikely to be in a useable state and should be discarded.

The cured sealant can be removed by scraping or sanding or with the help of Selleys Silicone Remover. Handy Hints For neater joints, mask sides before applying sealant and remove the tape before sealant skins. Paint with water-based paint. Specifically designed to fill and repair cracks, chips and breakages in porcelain, enamel and crockery. China Pottery Porcelain Ceramics Earthenware Bathroom fittings How to use this product -Surfaces joined should be clean and dry. -Remove cap and pierce seal in each nozzle with the spatula/pin provided. -The dual syringe will dispense equal portions of Part ‘A’ and Part ‘B’. Mix thoroughly. -Apply to one surface, then bring together and hold using tape, weights etc. -Once cured this product is extremely difficult to remove. Any material squeezed out of joints or split is best removed before it sets using Solvent Acetone or Methyl Ethyl Ketone solvent. -Wipe nozzles after use. Pull the plunger back slightly and replace cap firmly over nozzles. Handy tips -For filling only, can be tinted with iron oxide or other dry pigments which must be mixed in very thoroughly. -Softens at high temperatures, but strength returns when cooled. -Wear protective gloves and eye protection when mixing or using. -Keep a canister of SELLEYS Sugar Soap Wipes nearby for a quick and effective cleanup. -Clean up excess material with Acetone immediately. Once set the product cannot be removed easily -To remove product after cure, mechanical action (scraping or sanding) is recommended. Since the product is chemically resistant solvent will NOT dissolve this product. -To reposition the bond once cured, check that the item is heat resistant. If safe, heat the item slowly, e.g. in an oven, to at least 150oC. The product will soften and liquify slightly. Scrape off any excess then reposition the joint carefully using appropriate safety equipment. Allow the item to cool down in the correct position. The product will reharden once returned to room temperature. Safety tips -Avoid contact with skin and eyes and avoid breathing its vapours. -Wear protective gloves when mixing and using. -If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre.
